We finally stopped after going by this place for years. Best Fried Chicken, light crispy batter. Bacon wrapped Meatloaf, two thumbs up! Cheese curds were perfect. Love the great adventure on the farm idea. We visited the store and bakery, everything looked exceptional, if I had been stocking up for the week on groceries, this was the place to be. Cheese, dairy, meat, vegetables, fruits, wines, ice cream. Yum. We saved room for a shake and ice cream to go on the road and it was worth saving room for!

First off, the food was very good. I had a specialty burger and my wife had a BLT. We sat in the bar area due to it being busy, which was fine. We also had the cheese plate which was a bit pricey but very good. My wife can't speak highly enough about the BLT and the bacon that was on it. She gave me a bite and it was unlike any bacon I had ever had before. Fantastic. My burger had arugula and some Chipotle mayo which made it a bit spicy. Each bite was juicy and had me wanting more. The unfortunate side of our visit is that our waitress clearly had no idea what she was doing. Service was pretty poor from her. The WORST part of our visit is that the waiting area to be seated is near the restrooms. The entire area smelly very strongly of human waste. Absolutely disgusting. One of the worst smelling bathrooms I have ever encountered and the smell was inescapable in the waiting area. Not something I want to be greeted with. Oddly though, the bathrooms appeared very clean. We would return with the hope that these instances are not common.

What a lovely surprise of a restaurant just off the highway! First, the staff was very friendly & knowledgable about their food. Our waitress was just back from maternity leave and was so helpful, friendly & professional. She made the meal so relaxing & pleasant. She was also very invested in the philosophy of the restaurant: good food, well prepared. Staff who believe in what they do are the best marketing tools & provide the best service. She was great!! Next the sustainable, local food that was artfully prepared. I had the best caprese salad I've ever had. The fresh mozzarella was the rock star here but the thinly slices tomatoes with freshly ground salt & pepper rounded out the dish. My husband's chili was well spiced & thick with a deft hand at flavor profile. The sweet cornbread with hints of jalapeno rounded out his meal. Also had a trio of sliders. The small burgers were slightly & amazingly pink inside, perfect with the bacon & cheese. To top off the meal, they gave us a piece of cheesecake for our 18th anniversary celebration. Great food, great service! This is a must do for families & foodies alike!

We stopped for lunch/brunch on a Sunday. Three had the prime rib sandwich and fries good portion size. Looked great they liked it. One had the biscuits and gravy, it was a good size portion with potatoes on the side. Two had the chicken and waffles, not it said plural waffles, came with a half of a waffle, two small chicken tender strips and a serving spoon size of scrambled eggs. Very good but very small portions. The waffle half had bacon in it, delicious. The place is beautiful the staff is awesome just need a better equality on the portion size of the chicken and waffles. Even the others with us were surprised by how small ours was compared to theirs.

Entire meal was comped! This would have been a negative 10 if our waitress and management wouldn't have gave us our meal for free. So now I am giving them a fair review and eliminating the fact that it took us over an hour and a half to eat our lunch! Our waitress made a mistake and forgot to press "send" on our order. We got our soups in about 10 min, but the main course was never made because of the computer entry error. After an hour we finally asked what was up, and the mix up was resolved. The waitress was very apologetic and I kind of felt sorry for her! The only sucky thing was we were traveling and still had 4+ hours left to get home!!! Free is nice, but it made for a long travel day. Now for the food! You MUST try the French Onion Soup! Excellent! I know this is said a lot on Yelp, but it could be one of the best soups I have ever had. Certainly tops of Onion Soup category! Our main courses were good. I had the Shaved Prime Rib Sandwich which was average size but very tasty. My wife had the Meatloaf which was also good but could have had more flavor and was a bit dry. Her dad had the Short Rib Country Fried Steak, which I thought was something different and interesting to try. It had good flavor and I liked the gravy. Next time I would be sure to have the soup and would order the sandwich or the country fried steak. Overall it was a unique place to eat with good food... And great onion soup! I was impressed with the management for making the mistake right. Would go back.

This is my first update and it concerns the mac n'cheese. It was as good as it looked. It was very creamy--I prefer it that way rather than more viscous and it had a nice parmesan crust. I also had the pork pizza. It wasn't spectacular but it was good--particularly the meat toppings. A crisper crust would have gone a long way toward improving it IMO. I might be a bit over enthused by the ambience of the place and the concept behind it--if judged cumulatively, the food is probably four stars... but some of the dishes (pork tenderloin, mac n'cheese) are outstanding, so I'll let my five stars stand.

The Farmhouse restaurant is much like putting lipstick on a pig. The restaurant looks very nice and clean. It stops there. As another reviewer stated, the bathrooms stink!!! The prices are expensive for what you are getting. I had the cheeseburger and the meat was juicy but tasteless. The burger was tasteless. My wife ordered the BLT which was the special. She could not finish it. The bacon was disgusting couple that with the mayo. I looked at the bacon and it made me gag. The service was par. Too expensive, too far, too bad.

This place is terrible. Over priced. Our waitress was so rude and didn't know how anything was prepared. She didn't like being asked about anything. Don't go if you're vegan or plant based with your omnivore friends as EVERYTHING is cooked in, smothered in, topped with some type of animal and loads of fat. I thought a farm was fresh fruits and veggies. Not this place. The salads after you order all the "junk" off leaves you with a sad plate of lettuce. Won't ever go back.

Love, love, love this place. What a great vibe it has after spending the day visiting the farm adventures. We worked up an appetite and were so satisfied with the wonderful flavors. Everyone here is so nice and warm and it's just a truly pleasurable way to spend time. We had the cheese plate appetizer, I had the Walleye fish and a cool country margarita. The ice cream is yummy too. I can't wait to go back!

Had the pleasure of partaking in a business dinner at The Farmhouse Restaurant this evening. Our group was seated in the small, private dining room adjacent to the kitchen. Everything was top notch. Food: great variety, beautifully presented, plentiful portions and delicious. Drink: a nice menu of "house" specialties. My Country Margarita contained fresh jalapeño slices, a favorite of mine. Atmosphere: fantastic! The private dining room was great for group that wanted to share conversation without competing with (or disturbing) fellow diners. Service: Superb! Emma did a fantastic job. Very knowledgeable about the menu, efficient and personable. If I was hiring, she could work for me...doesn't matter what the job would be.

We stumbled across this place on our way home to St. Louis. I am sure glad we did. This place was amazing. By far the best milk I have ever had. The burgers were great, wait staff was super friendly and fast service. I would highly recommend a stop here!

We are from southern Indiana and stopped by the Cowfe (Cafe) this morning for breakfast on our way home from Chicago. We were pleasantly surprised! We sample the cheese in the cafe and I purchased I do not know how many packages. Great cheese! This place is everything Indiana has to offer! I am proud to see someone display our culture for all to see! I WILL be back and I will be an online customer!

Starting off the hostess were rude and gave us a dirty look when we said we didn't have a reservation.... Way Overpriced! Ham was dry. NO JELLY OR BUTTER FOR THE BISCUITS. We had to ask for silverware. This place has bad customer service overall... We Spent $100 for 4 adults to eat brunch. For 1/2 the money you could get better food at Bob Evans. For an Easter buffet you would have thought it would have been more selection. The only good part was the omelettes. We should have grabbed ice cream and skipped the restaurant. Don't waste your money...

Chicken meal said it would come with green beans and garlic mush potatoes. Chicken taste like frozen hunger man TV dinner. Plate came out with collard greens on top with chicken underneath and in middle was potatoes. They called it mush for a reason because it not mash. Food 0 star. Server 6 star.

If you need to make a stop on 65 between Chicago and Indianapolis, stop here. I had a delicious pork tenderloin sandwich and amazing fried cheese curds. Don't leave here without buying some cheese. The havarti dill and havarti onion are outstanding!

Okay, I'm not sure where the 4&5 star reviews are coming from. This place is completely overpriced, save yourself some money and sanity and go to the first barn with the ice-cream and food and get the same meal for a fraction of the cost! The food was decent, and the service was terrible! Our waitress wouldn't let us substitute any sides. Not even for a same priced side. Are you kidding me!? For $20 a plate, I'd rather have fries over slaw. What is the big deal? Not to mention we were there for over an hour. From start to finish, and it wasn't a very enjoyable hour having to ask for refills and eventually beg to get out check so we could get out of there. Seriously, either go to Cracker Barrel for your fried chicken or hit up the other place and get the same food, plus some cheese all for the same price. At least then you'll leave with your sanity.

Met some friends for dinner here tonight. It's unlike anything around the area. It's a NICE place for dinner and drinks in a long interstate drive of exit truck stops. I had the chef's special shrimp and it was fantastic. Good portions of food and GREAT service. We had a sweet girl named Brandi as our server. She was so tentative. Even when we stayed far after closing! She never rushed us out or acted like she was in a hurry. She took her time, made suggestions, and kept our beverages full. Brandi made us feel like we were dining with family. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon!

If I could I would give it 10 stars! I had the ribeye and it easily rivaled meals I've payed 2-3x more for. The staff was very friendly and the waiter/bar tender that served me (I sat in the pub) was extremely kind not just to me but you could see that he was a genuinely good guy in how he interacted with his coworkers. It's also nice to see that milk was cheaper than pop. If you get the chance you HAVE TO eat here. If you leave disappointed then there is nothing in this world that will satisfy you....lol...

Awesome... Cheeses were delicious, the Pecan Crusted Walleye was outstanding and service was great. Friendly servers and staff... Oh and pizza was also delish, thin n crispy!!!

The new Farmhouse Restaurant at Fair Oaks Farms advertises itself as having a "farm-to-table" experience so we were excited to plan our trip with a stop for dinner at the restaurant. The farm-to-table restaurant movement refers to fresh ingredients produced locally. Although this restaurant is part of the large Fair Oaks Farms complex, the food served cannot in any way be associated with farm-to-table. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. We ordered the Classic Friend Chicken and the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf. It was obvious due to the dryness and odd coating on the chicken it was not fresh or cooked to order but a precooked/frozen product similar to what is sold by Gordon Foods. Both dishes came with a salad--however, the dressing served on the side was not made on site but a premade product. The chicken came with cider braised greens that were extremely sweet. Although the meal was anything but enjoyable and we actually returned the chicken to the kitchen, I would not have reviewed the restaurant on YELP if they had not marketed the food as farm-to-table and then not delivered on that promise. Instead, I just would have not returned to the restaurant. It's probably comparable to a Bob Evan's Restaurant and is does not come close to a real farm-to-table experience. Do not be mislead by the beautiful food photography and food styling shown on their Web site. On the positive side, the restaurant is very clean, offers wine by the glass and bottle, and has very friendly wait staff.

New restaurant in the Fair Oaks complex. This place is quite a success story, growing from a small building off the highway selling cheese and other things to a sprawling compound where kids can interact with farm animals, a bakery and now this huge spacious restaurant and conference center. It has a barn feel with open beam ceilings and open floor plan - with a huge stone fireplace from ceiling to floor. The bar area is also nice and serves 5 or 6 local craft beers on draft from Goose Island, Bells and Three Floyds (Zombie Dust - yum). Being the middle of the afternoon we split a salad, french onion soup and a pizza that was topped with pork belly, bacon and brisket. Everything was good and is locally sourced - either off the farm or from farmers nearby. Our server was also fantastic so we will be back when making our annual trips back to Ohio to try some other menu items.

Visited Farmhouse for a second time and have decided it is overpriced for what you get. My wife got one pancake and two strips of bacon for 10$. I ordered the fried chicken and mashed potatoes and greens. I asked if I could substitute macaroni for the greens . They were adamant no subbing for anything on menu. Haven't been too impressed with waitresses either time. Seems they don't have enough for the number of guests. Discovered that the store with the cheese milk. And ice cream have full breakfast for 6-7$ and sandwiches reasonably priced. Will eat there and b done with farmhouse.

Atmosphere was odd, too open. More booths would give intimacy and privacy. Food was delicious! Service was marginal, I think she may have been intimated by us. Prices were a bit outrageous for Indiana.

Great atmosphere, very clean, and a great experience. The food was great and generously portioned. Farmhouse burger and carrot cake were the highlight of my weekend.

This restaurant is a much appreciated surprise in an unexpected location. If you ever travel I-65 between Lafayette and Indy, you've probably noticed Fair Oaks Farms and the cow themed milk tankers parked along the highway. Until a friend recently told me to check out this place I didn't even realize it existed. If you are in the area and need food or drink that is much better than normal road food, you should try it. We have had 2 lunches and a brunch and everything has been very good. Farmhouse has real chefs, a good wine list, an impressive dining room with a huge stone fireplace rising through a high, timbered ceiling and a comfortable bar. A wide variety of food is available, from sandwiches and pizza to entrees such as Pecan Crusted Walleye and Hand Cut Ribeye. On our first visit my wife had the walleye and I had the Smoked Baby Back Ribs. Both were very good. The next lunch involved two salads from the daily special menu. One included a nice mix of field greens topped by an excellent salmon filet. The other was a chopped salad topped by a perfectly cooked skirt steak. The most recent visit was on a Sunday for brunch. The Egg Battered French Toast and Country Omelette were well prepared and just the right size (substantial but not huge.) The bacon was a highlight (and the tasty Bloody Mary included a crispy strip of it!) I've traveled I-65 too many times to count and have always hated this stretch of road - I'll hate it a lot less now with Farmhouse as an option.

If you are one of those travelers that cruise I-65 between northwest Indiana and southern Indiana - like many do to get to Purdue University in Lafayette or Indiana University in Bloomington - you pass by milepost 220 (Winamac exit) where Fair Oaks Farms is located...pretty much smack dab in the middle of nowhere. So it was for us as we stopped by to eat dinner at the Farm's relatively new Farmhouse Restaurant last evening. It was an enjoyable visit. We arrived without reservations (which are probably not needed here in the spacious dining room) and were seated quickly. Our waitress Rosemary was right on the spot and attentive all evening. We were soon provided something to drink (there is a full-service bar, where one can also eat if they have a mind) and brought some cornbread and butter (we asked for and received more of this luscious starter - the cornbread having a few threads of green chiles for taste sensation). For an appetizer we ordered the cheese board...this deserves more press. Since Fair Oaks Farms specializes in milk products (it is a working dairy farm), it really hits the milk products out of the park. The cheese board was five star stuff. Chunks of four different farm-made cheeses (buttercase, 6yr cheddar, apple chutney, and sweet swiss) along with a handful of fresh fruit (raspberries and blackberries with a single strawberry) and a basket full of crisp toast and matzo crackers. This delish cheese board was only $10 and was enough for the table...we took the rest home. Our table for three had the fish fry (French fried whitefish filets, shrimp, and fries - only complaint was the breading on the fish was a bit too thick)...the sea bass (very nice filet of sea bass (done just right and flaky...not overdone)...and the seafood chowder (lots of seafood chunks in a delightful cream sauce that had just a bit of seasoning to wake up the taste buds in the back of your mouth - probably the winner as it comes in a fresh made bread bowl). These entrees pretty much came as stated...no other veggies or sides unless ordered. They do offer a number of al a carte sides (like homemade mac and cheese) but we did not try them on this visit. We did try dessert: butterpecan ice cream (a real winner since they make their own) and the very nice carrot cake (enough for two and accompanied by a warm walnut caramel sauce). All-in-all this was a very nice visit. We happened to make the mistake of ordering the cheese board at the same time as the entrees and received them almost on top of each other. The kitchen turns out food fast so you may want to have a pause in between orders. This very large building has a nice sized dining room and a huge ballroom next door (the kitchen is between them). You can rent out rooms here for business meetings, special events, weddings and the like. While the Farmhouse Restaurant is deep in farm country, if you have a reason to be out this way it is worth the visit.

Great food, prices were right, clean, and very friendly service. We stopped here on the way back home for Brunch around 1030am. The breakfast items on the menu were limited so our group of 4 sampled them all - French Toast with fresh strawberries and the steak and eggs with potatoes. I ordered Chicken and bacon waffles which had delicious chicken tenders, and perfectly seasoned scrambled eggs. The waffle was ok - I'm tired of the bacon craze, but at least I got my maple syrup fix. My favorite of all time was the grilled wings with a garlic honey sauce. Fairly mild and sweet - good size wing which I will order next time I'm there. The Beau ordered a prime rib sandwich which he rates as one of the better he's had with shaved beef and creamy horseradish. We set a date with our friends to come back on memorial day weekend - can't wait to try some more yummies. Why 4 stars? We stopped for breakfast and ate more of a lunch, and the limited breakfast items led me to order something I wouldn't have otherwise. Had it been lunch - it would be 5 stars.

I'm familiar with the Fair Oaks Farms and when they added the new steak restaurant, I was eager to try it out. I have always had good experience with the Farm aspect, especially loving their ice cream. Hearing the restaurant came with the slogan of "Farm to Table", I was expecting an above par experience and I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed. Walking in, my mother and I were greeted by the very friendly staff and seated in the "party booth". What a way to make us feel special! Things only continued to improve from there! Our appetizer of spinach dip and bread was very delicious, the perfect combination for a cold winter day. With such a good appetizer, I was hoping the main entrees wouldn't pale in comparison, but luckily, the food was just as good, if not better! I ordered the Fried Chicken Salad, which was $11 but I definitely think you get a lot for what you pay for. I'm very picky when it comes to the chicken I eat, and I thought it was one of the best I've ever tried. Covering the salad in the Honey Mustard dressing that it comes with ties the whole package together. My mom ordered the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf for $15 and she received so much that we had to take some home! Needless to say, I thought everything about the restaurant from the service to the food quality was impressive and I definitely plan on coming back again.

What an enjoyable stop on the side of the highway. The farmhouse is a beautiful building that could probably see you about 200 people at once. It has private dining rooms for chef's tasting and something upfront called the board room. The facility was brand-new so it was extremely clean. The open kitchen is glassed in and give syou the ability to watch your food being prepared and your waitstaff plating it. I am not from the area, I was traveling through on I 65, so I am not sure about how the price compares to other restaurants in the area. I had a fantastic ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables that consisted of Brussels sprouts, zucchini and squash. There was a large group settling into the chef's tasting room. They seemed like they had been at the restaurant before and were excited to see what the Shavehead come up with this time. The farmhouse restaurant sits inside the fair Oaks dairy property, this is a huge deer anywhere you could watch cows being born and take towards. The food was very fresh. I had a nice conversation with the bartender. He told me a little history of the farm and let me know that there were 36,000 head of dairy cows on the property. He also mentioned that there was a cow born every couple of minutes something like 75 a day. Was a very interesting stop and I'm sorry I couldn't stay for the ice cream but I had to get back on the road. Overall this was a five star for me. Good food, large portions, fresh taste, and you can watch your food being prepared in the kitchen, also the staff was very friendly. This really fit all the high marks for me. I cannot believe it was a stop on the side of the road.

We stopped for a quick dinner in the family restaurant and were pleasantly surprised to find a large, tastefully decorated and well-run establishment. Everything from the waitstaff's friendly greetings to the clean bathrooms to the nicely landscaped property has that "freshly scrubbed" feel. Some may think the menu items are bit pricey, but coming from the Chicago burbs we felt the selections were good value, since the portions were sizable and very tasty. The salads were fresh with wonderfully smooth goats cheese. The pecan-crusted walleye was flavorful and prepared to perfection. Service was prompt, with fast removal of dirty plates and attentive staff. Impressive. The general manager also stopped by to check on us. We didn't take in any of the other tourist opportunities on the grounds, but if you are looking for an above average, prompt meal while traveling, this spot is an excellent oasis among the typical flatland fast food choices. You will be happy you stopped here for a homemade, non-standard meal.

Foods good and the place is nice but not worth the price. Everything there is all organic from the meat to the cheese and vegetables. If your into that then this is the place for you. Me personally I'd rather spend a quarter of the price and go get a burger.

I would have given this place 5 stars but didn't because as a dad visiting the restaurant on my own with my 7 month infant I was disturbed to find that there was no changing table in the men's bathroom. I had to embarrass myself and a bunch of ladies by going into their bathroom to change my daughter's diaper. I am not trying to deter people from coming here but my hope is that management will read this and correct the wrong.

Let me start by saying our server, Mary, was wonderful. She was attentive and charming. That's where it ended. You would think a place that produce cows and pigs would have wonderful steak and/ or ribs. That is not the case. They were tough and tasteless. The Mac and cheese was tasteless. French fries were cold. My farmhouse burger was lukewarm but OK, just OK. Corn bread... Excellent. Chilli...also excellent. Not worth the money or travel time to come back.

Disappointed. We stopped for our roadtrip from Indianapolis to Chicago as we usually love stopping for a Fair Oaks grilled cheese so we were excited to try the new Farmhouse restaurant. We got there and waited... And waited. We waited 30 min for a table. No big deal- it's the only sit down place along this stretch of 65 for awhile. We got our table and waited for service. Finally was served and our order taken. We were promised bread and drinks quickly. Was brought our drinks and my chili sans a spoon. Waited 5 minutes and had to flag down a busser to grab me one. Waited with an empty water glass and some spicy chili for at least 10-15 minutes and flagged down our server for a refill and reminded her about the bread as I watched tables around us seated later receive theirs. Finally got that as well as our orders. My hot fried chicken salad could not even be called lukewarm as it was probably sitting awhile. Still it was delicious and the honey mustard dressing was an excellent complement. My husband's country fried steak was tasty, cooked properly, and pretty much what you would expect. The side garlic mashed potatoes were super duper garlicky-- which he enjoyed but definitely could be off- putting if it's not your thing. All in all, the food was good-- great country-style home cooking. The service just left a lot to be desired and perhaps it was just our server-- we won't be back though. We don't have that much time to sit and wait on a roadtrip.

Excellent! I had the Steak Chopped Salad with Balsamic dressing and I can not put into words how FABULOUS this dish was. My boyfriend had the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf and this was as equally AMAZING as my dish. We drove about 30 minutes on a Monday afternoon for lunch and it was definitely worth every minute of the drive. We browsed the Market and Bakery along with walking over to grab some ice cream before we left. And of course, we never leave without grabbing some cheese for home! Can't wait to return for our next lunch date :)

We were a party of 12 with reservations. They put us in a separate room which was fine by me. Had walleye and it was excellent. Also a delicious gumbo soup. Waitress was Miracle and she did an excellent job. Everyone was happy with their entree except a very fussy eater. When the bill came I was pleasantly surprised to see they didn't add a gratuity for a group our size. I tipped over 20%.

Went with a group of friends tonight and we were all very happy with our experience. The bacon sampler appetizer (pictured) was incredible. The country fried steak was awesome. My friends raved about the ribs and meat loaf. My only quibble (and it's a fairly big one) was with the mac and cheese side dish. The flavor was great but the cheese was WAY too watery. It was like pasta in thin cheese soup. That being said, the wait staff was good, if still a touch inexperienced (the place has only been open a month). I would definitely go back for a special occasion as it is a little pricey (but worth it). OH. They also have a huge list of Bourbons, Scotches and Whiskeys. I hadn't had a Templeton Rye in ages and it was the bomb.
